Compass/Regional

There are two large-scale planning efforts that include the North Foothills, aimed primarily at defining future transportation system needs and defining accompanying assumptions/objectives for land use patterns.  One, the Communities-In-Motion (CIP) study, being conducted by Compass (Community Planning Association) covers all of the Treasure Valley. The second, the Blueprint for Good Growth is for Ada County and is intended to guide both the County and constituent cities related to accomplishing the objectives/plans emerging from the CIM study, in the form of appropriate land use patterns to maximize transportation efficiency and further planning for needed improvements.

These studies no longer have particular relevance to on-going planning for the North Foothills.  This is because the preferred scenario for land use on which they are based shows essentially no development in the North Foothills (a direct response to public input received during preparation of these plans).  Interestingly, these studies also show significant traffic impacts and requirements for major (highly expensive, and currently not funded) improvements to the road system in the area without any North Foothills development!!  Major improvements would be required to Highways 16 and 55, Beacon Light, Linder, and others.
